Hiking for us is about activating the body while allowing all the senses to relax and enjoy. On this page, we have gathered some of our favorite trails to hike, some starting directly from the campground and others requiring a short drive. Hiking in Vimmerby is an experience for both young and old, four-legged and two-legged.

Ryd Trail – a perfect morning walk

Enjoy a perfect morning walk starting from the campground! This 5-kilometer route takes you along small roads and paths, past horse pastures and charming residential areas in an authentic Småland setting.

Whether you are an experienced hiker or just looking for a relaxing walk, the trail offers a wonderful opportunity to discover beautiful nature and the peaceful landscape. Start your day with fresh air and scenic views!

Brantestad Nature Trail – Beautiful Forest and Farmland

Enjoy a scenic walk along the Nature Trail, a beautiful path winding through forest and open farmland. The trail passes through pastures with cows, pigs, and horses, and along the way, there are several historical and nature spots, described on information boards. For those who want to take a break, there are benches, outdoor toilets, and a barbecue area along the route. An informational brochure is available at the tourist office.

How to get here: Take Highway 40 towards Västervik. After about a mile, turn right towards “Naturrunda” and follow the signs. Park at Brantestad Old School, just a 20-minute drive from Vimmerby Camping.

Djursdala Trail – Scenic and Historic Hike

Explore the Djursdalarundan, a beautiful hiking trail that takes you through a varied landscape of meadows and mixed forests. Along the trail, there are two wind shelters with grilling areas, perfect for a break in nature. Toilets are available at the start of the trail.

You pass through pastures where animals may roam, adding an extra nature experience. Along the way, there are several historical and nature-interesting sites, which you can read about on information boards.

How to get here: Follow the signs towards Djursdala, north of Vimmerby, about a 20-minute drive from Vimmerby Camping. Turn right towards Ungstorp just before the village of Djursdala.

Norra Kvill National Park – Trek Through Untouched Ancient Forest

Discover the magic of Norra Kvill National Park, where you can hike through genuine primeval forest and experience untouched woodland filled with dense coniferous trees. The park features two beautiful lakes and a viewpoint that offers stunning views of the surroundings. At the start of the hiking trail, you’ll find outdoor toilets, a resting area with tables, and an information board with a map to help guide you on your way. How to get here: The national park is located northwest of Vimmerby, about a 30-minute drive from Vimmerby Camping. Follow the signs from the intersection at Åbro and easily park in the spacious parking area at the start of the trail.

Ingebo Hagar

Here, there are different trails to choose from for all types of hikers. You will walk through beautiful forests, lush meadows, and mysterious mossy areas. Each trail offers a unique nature experience, perfect for both beginners and experienced hikers.

At the start of the trails, there are convenient mailboxes with detailed maps that you can take with you to easily navigate the area. These maps will help you explore the beautiful surroundings and plan your hike based on your own time and ability.

Skrôle Hie

The nature reserve Skrôle Hie offers a unique and partially challenging nature experience through the approximately 800-meter-long ravine known as Skura. This beautiful ravine is surrounded by steep cliffs and large boulders, creating a fantastic environment for many different species. The streams flowing through the area provide an ideal breeding environment thanks to the moist atmosphere.

How to get here? From Vimmerby Camping, take Road 40 west toward Mariannelund. Continue through Mariannelund and onward to Hjältevad. After passing Hjältevad, continue toward Eksjö and follow the signs to Stuverydsbäcken Nature Reserve. The total travel time is approximately 40 minutes.

Skurugata & Skuruhatt

A climb through Skurugata is an exciting and challenging experience you won’t want to miss! Prepare yourself with good shoes and a warm sweater, as the hike can be tough. Along the way, you’ll weave between large boulders that have been shaped since the Ice Age, creating a fantastic and unique environment. This trail is perfect for adventure seekers and nature lovers who want to explore Sweden’s historical landscape. Seize the opportunity to experience Skurugata and enjoy the beautiful nature surrounding you!

How to get here? From Vimmerby Camping, take Road 40 west toward Mariannelund. Continue through Mariannelund and onward to Hjältevad. After passing Hjältevad, drive through Hult and then follow the signs toward Skurugata. The journey takes about 1 hour and covers approximately 63 kilometers.
