Our journey to Vimmerby Camping

Vimmerby Camping is a privately owned facility, with the owners being the Thorstensson/Wolmeryd family since January 2019. The journey to becoming campground owners has not been entirely traditional. Until the summer of 2018, Hampus ran a bowling alley and restaurant in the west coast town of Kungälv, where he quickly fell in love with Elisabeth, a woman from Kungsbacka. At that time, Elisabeth worked as a clothing buyer and commuted weekly between Paris and London.

“During the autumn, we decided to buy a summer cottage near Hampus’ parents in his childhood town of Vimmerby. The dream cottage, which we had seen online, was just a stone’s throw away from what would later become our workplace. The cottage had everything we wanted: its own beach, a sunset view on the veranda, and easy access to the town. Unfortunately, there were a few details that caused the purchase to fall through.”

With a slightly downcast expression, we went to the campground’s reception, where we met the then-owner, “NossenBossen-Lasse.” He offered us coffee and told us he was considering selling the campground. Our entrepreneurial minds immediately started racing. It took two weeks of intense discussions before we finally made up our minds and decided to buy the campground. The contract was signed during a vacation trip to Thailand.

In hindsight, we know we made the right decision. Vimmerby truly feels like home to us, and we have so much fun with all the guests on-site!

Our camping family is growing

In May 2020, specifically on the 25th, the campground’s very own ray of sunshine arrived on Earth – Leyton. Of course, he received his employment contract in the mailbox on the same day we came home from the hospital. Not long after, on November 25th, 2022, our second little star, sister Chloe, was welcomed into the camping family after a wait of 30 months.

Our main drive is to keep the campground constantly evolving, and we believe that all development comes from feedback and inspiration. Therefore, if you have an idea we should consider, don’t hesitate to share it with us!

Since September 2024, Explorer has become a part of our camping family. Greta, our previous constant companion, is no longer with us, but we remember her fondly. Explorer is a happy and energetic dog who loves to explore the surroundings and spread positive energy. He is a welcome newcomer to the campsite and loves to greet all guests with a friendly nose and tail wag.

The camping family has grown over the years, and since 2024, we are now six people taking care of you year-round. Hampus and Elisabeth, the owners, remain at the heart of the operation, ensuring that your stay with us is unforgettable. Together with our four full-time staff members, they work hand in hand to provide you with the best experience. We look forward to welcoming you throughout the year!
